Villafranca de Córdoba: nature, action and tradition near the city

Villafranca de Córdoba

Villafranca de Córdoba is just a 15-minute drive from the city of Córdoba. The village sits in the Guadalquivir Valley and offers a mix of green riverbanks, farmland and the mountains of Sierra Morena. A surprising blend of scenery that feels miles away from the city – but isn’t.

sleep with a view of the outdoors

From a house in the middle of a lake to a cosy hotel or youth hostel, the village has plenty of places to stay. Prefer sleeping under the stars? There's a well-equipped campsite for that too.

adventure in every direction

This is a village that doesn’t sit still. You can kayak down the Guadalquivir or hike through the natural habitat of the Iberian lynx. Feeling brave? Try the karting circuit. Or go all out and fly high in a microlight for a completely different perspective.

a walk through the village’s past

Take a walk through Villafranca’s streets and you'll pass buildings from the 16th century to today. A few highlights worth seeing:

Parroquia Santa Marina de Aguas Santas – a modest church on the outside with a richly decorated interior
Torre del Reloj – a 16th-century clock tower right next to the town hall
Ermita de Jesús Nazareno – a chapel with a striking image of Jesus Nazareno
Ermita Virgen de los Remedios – a baroque-style hermitage with a unique ceramic Stations of the Cross
Puente de los Remedios – a historic metal bridge that’s now pedestrian-only

eggs take the spotlight in the local cuisine

Villafranca’s food scene is rooted in Córdoba’s traditional dishes. But here, eggs are the star. On 14 May, the village hosts the Gran Huevada, a giant egg fry-up where more than 20,000 eggs are served to locals and visitors. It kicks off the Romería de San Isidro Labrador, a religious pilgrimage held the next day.

karting and water slides in one place

Villafranca is home to the only water park in the province. Aquasierra is the go-to spot in summer for swimming and slides. Outside the high season, the area is great for hiking and cycling. And when you’re in the mood for speed, the karting track has more than a kilometre of racing fun.

celebrations all year round

The village keeps the festive spirit going with events like the Gran Huevada, Romería de San Isidro, and other traditional fiestas. Expect music, food and a local vibe that brings everyone together.

Villafranca de Córdoba packs nature, culture and adventure into one compact destination. All year long, there’s something to do for kids, adults and everyone in between.
