The Rush and Ritual of Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls

Every July, Pamplona shifts gears. From quiet northern town to center stage of one of the world’s most thrilling events: the Running of the Bulls during the Fiesta de San Fermín. For nine days straight, courage meets chaos. Locals and visitors gather for a celebration of tradition, speed, and a bit of madness.

Centuries of Speed

The origins of this event go back to the 14th century. Back then, it was a religious celebration for San Fermín, the city’s patron saint. Over time, the festival evolved. What started as a solemn ceremony turned into a high-energy mix of culture, bravery, and spectacle. And people haven’t stopped showing up since.

The Bulls Hit the Streets

Every morning at 8:00 AM sharp, the action begins. Six bulls charge out of their pen and thunder through the cobbled streets of Pamplona. Dozens—sometimes hundreds—of runners try to stay just ahead of them. Some fall. Some sprint. All of them feel their hearts race. It's not about outrunning the bulls. It’s about staying upright and staying aware.

The Route Is Short. The Intensity Isn’t.

The course is only 825 meters long. But in those three minutes, anything can happen. The route twists through narrow alleys and open stretches, ending in the city’s bullring. Every turn adds tension. Every second demands focus. There’s no time for hesitation.

Safety in the Chaos

Running with bulls might sound reckless, but it’s surprisingly organized. Wooden fences line the streets. Trained runners—called “pastores”—guide the bulls. Medical teams stay on standby. Still, risk is part of the experience. That’s exactly why people keep coming back.

There’s More Than Running

The Fiesta de San Fermín is about more than just the bulls. The whole city joins in. Parades, fireworks, and concerts fill the schedule. Locals wear red and white. Bands play in every corner. There’s dancing, laughing, and tapas on every table. Even if you skip the run, you won’t miss the fun.

One Event. Endless Stories.

The Running of the Bulls is bold, fast, and unforgettable. It brings people together in the most intense way possible. Whether you cheer from the sidelines or lace up your running shoes, the energy grabs you. And for many, that’s reason enough to return year after year.

Licor 43: The Golden Elixir from Spain

Licor 43 is more than just a drink. It's a symbol of Spanish passion that spans centuries. Its story begins in 209 BC, when the Romans conquered Carthago Nova—modern-day Cartagena. There, they found a golden beverage called Liqvor Mirabilis, made from fruits and herbs. Even though the Romans tried to ban it, locals preserved the recipe. That ancient inspiration still lives on in every bottle of Licor 43.
