Plaza de las Flores in the Old Town of Estepona

Plaza de las Flores Estepona

Plaza de las Flores is a lively meeting spot in Estepona’s charming old town. This car-free square is known for its buzzing atmosphere and is a favorite place for a drink, local tapas, or simply soaking in the surroundings. Surrounded by colorful flowers and historic facades, it’s a popular hangout for both locals and visitors.

A bit of history and architecture

Estepona expanded toward Málaga in the 19th century, making room for new public spaces. Plaza de las Flores, once called Plaza de la Constitución, became the centerpiece of this growth. Over time, it had different names like Plaza del Rey and Plaza Nueva, each reflecting a chapter in Estepona’s story.

The square is framed by 19th-century houses that once ranked among the town’s most prominent buildings. Today, these buildings, along with a central fountain and flower beds, give the square a charming backdrop that blends history with visual appeal.

A small cultural hub

One standout building on the square is the Casa de las Tejerinas. Originally a private residence, it now houses Estepona’s Tourist Office and hosts rotating art exhibitions. From traditional to modern, the art on display makes this house a cultural anchor of the square.

Relax, sit back, and enjoy

Whether you’re in the mood for a quiet coffee or a full dinner. Plaza de las Flores has plenty of cafés and restaurants with outdoor seating. Its pedestrian-only layout makes it perfect for families, groups of friends, or solo travelers looking for a relaxing break in the heart of Estepona’s old town.

With its layered history, cultural spots, and cheerful vibe, Plaza de las Flores captures the laid-back charm of Estepona in one sunny square.
