PLD Space, a private aerospace company in the province of Huelva, is about to make history. Their MIURA-1 micro rocket is ready for launch, marking Spain’s first privately-led space mission.
It’s not just another launch. This event signals a shift in the European space industry. PLD Space focuses on reusable rockets that carry small satellites into suborbital space—and bring them safely back.
Spanish facts and news from Andalusia

Paz Vega: From Seville to Hollywood
Paz Vega, originally Paz Campos Trigo, entered the world in Seville in 1976. That surname Vega? A nod to her grandmother. Smart move, because that name sticks. She started with comedy in the TV series 7 vidas, but her big moment came in 2001. Lucía y el sexo by Julio Medem accelerated her career. The Goya Award for Best Female Breakthrough followed, plus the Chopard Trophy at the Cannes Film Festival. Pretty impressive for an actress who had just moved from small screen to big screen.
Spanish talent heads to America
James L. Brooks saw something special in Vega and invited her for Spanglish in 2004. She played opposite Adam Sandler and immediately grabbed the Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for breakthrough actress. Hollywood was sold. Roles in The Spirit, Kill the Messenger and even Rambo: Last Blood with Sylvester Stallone followed. From Andalusian roots to international film sets – she made that leap effortlessly.
Working with the greats
The list of directors and actors Vega worked with reads like a who's who from the film industry. Pedro Almodóvar, Frank Miller, the Taviani Brothers – they all wanted to work with her. On screen she shared scenes with Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, Christopher Walken and Colin Farrell. In 2023 she played the lead role in Netflix series Kaleidoscope, produced by Ridley Scott. That series hit worldwide. Giancarlo Esposito, Tati Gabrielle and Rufus Sewell joined the cast. Success number.
Back to Spain
Paz Vega remained loyal to Spanish productions too. In 2022 she starred in A todo Tren 2, which landed in third place for most watched films in Spain. That same year she filmed Luciérnagas en el Mozote, the first Hollywood film shot entirely in El Salvador. In 2024 the miniseries 1992 followed, where she played Carmen. Six episodes long. And then there was Rita, her directorial debut. Because acting alone apparently wasn't enough. Vega went behind the camera and co-wrote the script. They call that multidisciplinary. We say: versatile.
Private life and family
On January 2, 2003, Vega married Orson Salazar. They had three children: Ava, Lenon and Orson Jr. Her father Manuel Campos, nicknamed Campito Jr, and mother Paz Trigo watched their daughter grow into an internationally renowned actress. Her sister Sara Vega is also part of the family. Vega keeps her private life fairly out of the spotlight, but that family foundation remains important.
From comedy to drama
7 vidas was comedy. Lucía y el sexo was erotic drama. Spanglish was a tragicomic family film. The Spirit was a neo-noir superhero film. Rambo: Last Blood was pure action. Kaleidoscope was a heist series. Vega jumps between genres effortlessly. She did romantic comedy in The Other Side of the Bed, played Mary in Il Vangelo di Giuda (2025) and Frances in Perla (2026). Drama, action, thriller, comedy – she handles it all.
Awards and recognition
That Goya Award for Lucía y el sexo was just the beginning. She received a nomination for the European Film Awards. The Chopard Trophy in Cannes followed. And then that Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for Spanglish. Hollywood and Europe appreciated her work. Rightfully so. Because Vega doesn't act – she becomes her characters. Whether she plays a Mexican housekeeper in America or a mysterious woman in a Spanish thriller, she makes it believable.
New projects and future
2025 and 2026 bring new films. Il Vangelo di Giuda already received a 7.4 on rating sites. Perla is coming. Double Soul (2023) and Aire, Just Breathe (2024) just came out. Vega doesn't stop. She acts, she directs, she writes. That passion for film runs deep. And that audience? They keep watching. Because a Spanish actress who works as easily in Hollywood as in Spain, you don't find that often.
