Paseo de las Tradiciones in Cómpeta

Cómpeta Cómpeta

In Cómpeta, a whitewashed village in the hills of Málaga, you’ll find a walking route that’s anything but ordinary. The Paseo de las Tradiciones takes you through the stories, crafts, and daily life that shaped this Andalusian village. Small in size, but big in meaning.

A tiled timeline of village life

This walkway opened in 2009 and runs alongside the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It’s not just about getting from A to B. Each step brings you closer to Cómpeta’s past.

On one side, you’ll find detailed mosaic panels by local artist Antonio Rivas. They show scenes from everyday life, ancient trades, and the village's Moorish roots. Each image is paired with a short poem by writer Manuel Ángel López and a short description in Spanish. Even if your Spanish is rusty, the visuals tell the story on their own.

Views worth pausing for

On the opposite side of the path, a small balcony overlooks the village below. It’s the kind of view that makes you slow down. Think white façades, clay rooftops, and the soft backdrop of the Andalusian mountains. Bring your camera—or just enjoy the quiet.

More than just a walkway

The Paseo de las Tradiciones isn’t flashy. But it doesn’t need to be. It offers a calm, thoughtful experience that brings you closer to the identity of Cómpeta. Whether you’re into history, poetry, or pretty tiles, there’s something here to enjoy.

If you're wandering through Cómpeta, take a short detour. Walk the paseo. It only takes a few minutes, but it stays with you a lot longer.

Alfarnatejo, Málaga

They likely built a fortress on the Alto del Fraile: Castillo de Sabar. Not to impress, but to keep watch. Around that fortress, a small farm settlement sprouted. That eventually became Alfarnatejo, which separated from its neighbor Alfarnate in the 18th century.
