Parque de la Paloma: the all-in-one city park of Benalmádena

Parque-de-la-Paloma

Right in the middle of lively Benalmádena lies Parque de la Paloma. A giant city park where you can relax, walk, sit, or just enjoy the view. With over 200,000 m² of greenery, animals, lakes, and paths, it feels like you’ve escaped the city—without actually leaving it. Bring your kids, your partner, or just yourself. This park fits every plan.

A park that locals love

Parque de la Paloma is part of daily life in Benalmádena. It's the biggest city park on the Costa del Sol and just a short walk from the centre. Since opening in 1995, it's been a favourite hangout spot for people from Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and even Málaga.

The park has something for everyone: a large artificial lake, pedal boats, several playgrounds, cafés, and lots of shady benches. The gates open every day at 09:00. Closing times depend on the season, so it’s smart to check the website before your visit.

Plants you’ll want to photograph

Start walking and you’ll see it immediately—trees and plants in all shapes and sizes. Bamboos, eucalyptus trees, cypresses, and pines line the paths. The main stars? Over 90 different species of palm trees.

The cactus and succulent garden is even more impressive. More than 6,000 m² of rare and surprising plants. Bigger than expected. Prettier than imagined.

Animals around every corner

It’s not just a park with trees. You’ll also meet animals, lots of them. Peacocks, ducks, chickens, swans, and geese wander around like they own the place. You might spot emus, pelicans, turtles, rabbits—and even mouflons and mountain goats. Some animals live in fenced areas, others roam freely.

Events that light up the park

Parque de la Paloma is more than grass and trees. It also hosts events throughout the year. Music, colour, culture—there’s always something going on.

HOLI Festival
A colorful celebration with music, dance, and food. DJs, Bollywood vibes, and traditional Indian dishes make it a feast for your eyes, ears and taste buds.

Rare Plant Fair
Around Easter, the park turns into a paradise for plant fans. Collectors and growers bring their most unique plants to show, sell, or swap. From orchids to medicinal herbs, this event is a must for every garden lover.

More fun just next door

You don’t have to plan a full-day trip. Right next to the park is Selwo Marina, a small zoo with dolphins, penguins, and tropical animals. Perfect if you’re travelling with kids.

Inside the park, you'll also find the Auditorio Municipal. This open-air theatre hosts concerts and shows throughout the year. Just behind it? A colorful Hindu temple that adds an extra surprise to your walk.

Want to walk along the sea? Try one of the coastal paths near Benalmádena. Prefer to relax with a drink and sea view? There are plenty of beach clubs nearby.

How to get to Parque de la Paloma

By public transport
From Málaga Airport, take the M-128 bus to Benalmádena Costa. It runs on weekdays from 9:00 and every hour during the weekend.

By car
Prefer driving? Rent a car at Málaga Airport and follow the N-340/MA-21 towards Benalmádena. Take exit 1003 for "Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel". From there, drive via Calle Voluntarios de Protección Civil to Av. Federico García Lorca.

The park has five entrances. Wherever you park, you’re always close by.

Ideal for a break on the Costa del Sol

If you want to enjoy nature, animals, and local life in one place, Parque de la Paloma is your go-to spot. No tickets, no queues, just a peaceful day in a city that knows how to relax.

What is Pedro Ximénez or PX?

Pedro Ximénez, or PX for short, is one of the sweetest wines from southern Spain. It’s nothing like the dry sherries you might know from Jerez. This one is dark, thick, and packed with flavour. Think raisins, figs, coffee, and dark chocolate—all in one sip. The trick? The grapes are sun-dried after harvest, turning them almost into raisins. What’s left is super-concentrated juice. Add years of barrel aging, and you get a wine full of depth and sweetness.
