When the drums start rolling and the incense fills the streets, Málaga knows it’s time. Semana Santa – Holy Week – is back. And this year, it comes with clear skies, sun-drenched afternoons and short-sleeve temperatures. Ideal weather for one of the most moving events in Andalusia.

Faro de Torre del Mar (Málaga)

Lights on, spotlight ready: the Faro de Torre del Mar is the real scene-stealer. This lighthouse isn’t just handy for ships, it’s also a perfect backdrop for your holiday photos. In the early 1970s, the original, charming little lighthouse got a new, modern companion. Why? The old one had ended up boxed in between apartment blocks on Avenida Toré Toré. Not ideal for guiding ships.
The new lighthouse was built in a smarter spot: right by the sea, with an open view. This tall cylindrical tower, nearly thirty metres high, has been a landmark in Torre del Mar ever since. It still shines over the Mediterranean every night — quite literally.
Antique charm on Avenida Toré Toré
Look closely and you’ll still spot the old lighthouse standing proud. With its rectangular shape and solid stone build, it’s a nod to another era. Next to it is a small house that once belonged to the lighthouse. Built in the 1930s, this cosy combo is a quiet reminder of how different the coastline used to be.
Paseo Marítimo de Poniente
In the mood for a seaside stroll? Head straight to the Paseo Marítimo de Poniente. Built in 1976, it’s the go-to spot for fresh air, an ice cream or a beach volleyball match. You’ll walk past the lighthouses, flanked by palm trees and sports fields, and maybe even catch a live performance at the Templete de la Música. Especially in summer, the vibe here is unbeatable.
The perfect mix of beach, history and city buzz — all in one walk.
