Estepona builds Spain’s largest outdoor climbing center
Estepona is about to get the biggest outdoor climbing center in Spain. The structure uses 130 tons of steel. It covers 662 square meters. This climbing center is fully dedicated to outdoor climbing. No space is shared with other sports. The city highlights that this will be a national benchmark in both size and features.
Parque Ferial y Deportivo de Estepona
The climbing center will be in Parque Ferial y Deportivo de Estepona. It will host recreational climbing and national and international competitions. Since climbing became an Olympic sport at Tokyo 2020, interest has grown. The center is nearly finished. It will be covered and lit at night, allowing climbing anytime.
Climbing’s rising popularity
Climbing is becoming more popular every year. Estepona’s new center aims to attract beginners and elite athletes alike. It will offer lessons, club activities, training sessions, and competitions for all levels.
Features of the Estepona climbing center
The center meets all official standards. It supports different climbing styles: difficulty, speed, and bouldering. The 662-square-meter area is divided into zones: 115 m² for speed, 363 m² for difficulty, and 184 m² for bouldering.
Two sections with different heights
The structure includes two raised parts of different heights. Load calculations follow current regulations and specific sport requirements. The climbing wall was designed with advanced 3D modeling. It is a self-supporting steel structure with illuminated panels.
The team behind the project
Andalusian company Sepisur XXI S.L. handles the construction. EP Climbing, a Spanish manufacturer, supplies the climbing equipment. The design is similar to walls used at the 2023 Pan-American Games in Santiago de Chile and events in Asia. It’s unique in Spain for its size and versatility.
