Bodegas Bentomiz: a wine paradise by the Mediterranean Sea

Tucked away in the sun-drenched hills of Sayalonga, Málaga, Bodegas Bentomiz offers more than just award-winning wines. This boutique vineyard, surrounded by stunning views of the Mediterranean and mountains, is a sensory experience you won’t forget.
Wine with a view
Step into a landscape of rugged hills, slate soils and century-old vines. The steep vineyards stretch from 500 to 800 metres above sea level. In one direction, the Sierra Tejeda mountains tower over the horizon. In the other, the Mediterranean sparkles in the distance. Whether you're sipping wine on the terrace or strolling between the vines, every angle is picture-perfect.
Handcrafted at every step
No machines here. Every vine is cared for by hand. Workers prune the bush-trained vines in winter so that each plant creates a natural canopy to protect its fruit. Thanks to the dry air, the grapes can ripen slowly right on the ground—no rot, no rush. It's labour-intensive, but it’s worth it.
Old techniques meet fresh ideas
Tradition still plays a big role at Bodegas Bentomiz, but innovation takes things to the next level. After harvest, grapes are dried in the sun to balance sweetness and acidity. Some are laid on traditional paseros (drying beds), others on raised racks that let the air circulate freely. When they’re all spread out, it looks like the bodega is floating on a sea of grapes.
Fermentation happens in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Some wines age on their lees, while others spend time in oak barrels. The result? Fresh, balanced wines with lots of character.
Naturally sweet, never fortified
The dessert wines are something special. Instead of adding spirits, fermentation is stopped using a cold shock. This preserves the grape’s natural sugars—and gives the wine a light, elegant sweetness. It’s a slower process, but it keeps the flavour crisp and clean.
Wines served by the stars
Bodegas Bentomiz produces the Ariyanas range, named after a Moorish village and meaning “aromatic” in Arabic. These wines are served in over 20 Michelin-starred restaurants, including El Celler de Can Roca and SantCeloni. The bodega also creates PiXel and Rayya, plus two sparkling wines in collaboration with Lobban Wines in Barcelona.
Taste, tour and relax
Visiting Bodegas Bentomiz is about more than wine. Join a guided tour, try a tasting, or enjoy a multi-course lunch. The kitchen caters for food allergies and special diets. The estate is wheelchair-friendly with a stairlift and adapted toilets. Kids are welcome, with free entry and tastings for under 16s, plus a child-friendly menu.
