Iglesia Convento de la Merced: A Historical and Spiritual Experience

Centuries of History

The Iglesia Convento de la Merced dates back to 1585 and still preserves the original church and orchard of the old complex. This religious monument in Spain is a treasured site for lovers of history, art, and devotion.

Architecture and Religious Art

The church consists of three naves and houses numerous artistic and religious masterpieces. One of the most remarkable pieces is the gilded silver reliquary containing the incorrupt hand of Saint Teresa of Jesus. This extraordinary relic, adorned with inlaid gemstones, dates back to the 17th century and attracts pilgrims from around the world.

A Place of Reflection

Beside the reliquary stands a statue of a grieving woman under the protection of Our Lady of Sorrows. This 19th-century artwork evokes deep emotions in visitors seeking comfort and spiritual enlightenment.

Artworks with a Story

The church walls are adorned with impressive 17th-century oil paintings. One of the most remarkable works depicts scenes from the life of Saint Peter Nolasco and is attributed to Fray Agustín Leonardo.
