Gaucín: White Houses, Narrow Streets, and an Ancient Castle

Gaucín is the first village on the route between Campo de Gibraltar and Ronda. This white village, perched on a hill along the Genal River, is known for its charming streets, historic buildings, and breathtaking views. The whitewashed houses, adorned with wrought-iron balconies, follow the natural contours of the mountain.

Highlight: Castillo de El Águila

Towering above the village is Castillo de El Águila. This ancient fortress, strategically built on a rocky outcrop, offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. On clear days, one can even see Gibraltar and the African coast. Originally built by the Romans and later reinforced by the Moors, the castle stands as a testament to Gaucín’s long and storied history.
