Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation

The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation in Jerez de la Frontera is world-renowned for its impressive horse shows and dedication to Andalusian equestrian art. Since its founding in 1973, the school has grown into an internationally recognized institution for classical dressage and the preservation of Spanish equestrian culture.

How It All Began

In May 1973, Don Álvaro Domecq Romero received the prestigious Caballo de Oro (Golden Horse) trophy. As a tribute to this honor, he presented the show "How the Andalusian Horses Dance", a unique performance showcasing the elegance and skills of Andalusian horses. This event marked the beginning of what would later become the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.

From Idea to Institution

In its early years, the school was managed by its founder. Later, the Ministry of Information and Tourism took over, acquiring Recreo de Las Cadenas, a historic building in Jerez. With an arena seating 1,600 spectators and stables for 60 horses, the school established a strong foundation for future growth.

National and International Growth

In 1982, management was transferred to a special governing body under the province of Cádiz, giving the school a new boost, both nationally and internationally. The official purchase took place in 1983, and Álvaro Domecq Romero was appointed Technical Director. This marked the beginning of a period of professionalization and expansion.

Expansion and Innovation

As the horse shows attracted increasing audiences, the school expanded its activities. In addition to performances, training programs were developed, and international collaborations grew. This solidified the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art as a key institution in the world of classical dressage.

Future and Tradition

With educational programs, exhibitions, and a strong focus on tradition, the school continues to play a vital role in preserving Andalusian equestrian culture. The combination of craftsmanship and passion ensures that this art form is passed down to future generations.
